Magpies Nest - Wagga Wagga

Unique, spacious, comfortable, superb, an experience, some of the adjectives used to describe a visit to the "Magpies Nest".

Purchased some 10 years ago; Chris and Wendy Whyte have set about creating a most unique property - sympathetically restored and renovated providing a careful balance between the charm of the old and the comfort of the new. The bluestone stable has been transposed to a purpose built, fully equipped restaurant and function area.

Constantly evolving the property provides diverse income streams and uses. The business was initially a restaurant - the best in Wagga Wagga where the menu incorporates the fine food produce of the Riverina. Demand for corporate conference and functions saw this aspect of the business also expand - with the Magpies Nest now catering approx. ten weddings and numerous private conference functions each year.

The 6,700 sq meters of land area has not been left idol. Approx 6,500 grape vines producing approx. 20 tonnes including Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabinet Sauvignon, Shiraz and darrif are trellised and harvested annually where they are sold to a local wine producer. There are approx. 2000 Olive trees including Kalamata, Atro Rubens, Mediterranean and Letchino varieties with an average age of 4 years planted in groves. A fully computerised micro-drip watering system is installed. All the land has been managed in a biodynamic manner.

The Olive harvest is pressed on site to produce "Wagga Wagga Wild Olive Oil".

The most recent business addition is the "Cellar Door" - a vigneron's license supported by an agreement with local Bidgebong Wines. This provides the perfect opportunity to market Olive Oil, and small vineyard wine's. This is a natural extension of the business, complementing the property perfectly.

The original "Estella" homestead has been restored/renovated to provide comfortable family accommodation. Set atop the rise the home enjoys views across the Murrumbidgee River to Wagga Wagga City.
